Adam Rickabaugh's Estate

The State of Ohio, Gallia County

Be it remembered that on the twenty eighth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty two the Honorable Anderson W. Hughes Robert Armstrong and Joseph W Rife the associate judges of the court of common pleas within and for the county of Gallia in the state of Ohio aforesaid and at the court house in said county for the purpose of transacting probate business

And therefore on application it is [named] that William Rickabaugh be and he is hereby appointed administrator of the Estate of Adam Rickabaugh late of the state of Illinois deceased; and thereupon the said William Rickabugh came before the court and accepted said appointment and gave bond to the [___] of the court in the [___] of Two Thousand Dollars with John Rickabaugh and [___] [___] [___] according to law.

Ordered that Isaac Troth Theodotious D Williams and James [_] Polluck after having been duly sworn do value and appraise the goods and chattels funds and [___] of the said Adam Rickabaugh deceased.

And afterwards to wit, on the fifth day of October in year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty three William rickabaugh administrator of the said Adam Rickabaugh decd filed in the Clerks office of the Court of Common Pleas aforesaid an Inventory and appraisement of the goods and chattels rights and [__} which were of the said Decd and the same is in the words and figures following, to wit:

The State of Ohio Gallia County

Pursuant to an order from the Court of Common Pleas to us directed we Isaac Troth Theodotious D. Williams and James E. Pollack who were appointed appraisers of the goods and chattels [___] and [_____] of Adam Rickabaugh late of the State of Illinois deceased as appears from said order, who after being duly sworn according to law [____] to appraise all the property of said Rickabaugh that was available to them. Sworn under our hands this 9th day of July AD 1842

The following Scedule is a list of the property appraised. Viz:

The balance of one note of hand on [_] D. Wood and of [] bal. Twenty [__] Dollars which we consider doubtful as to the collection of it, and we appraise said note at 10.00

Also one other note on John Hawkins for $180 payable in Horses subject to a credit of $60 which balance we appraise at 60.00

Also one other note of hand on Jno Hawkins for $100 payable in Young Horses. Note valued at 50.00

Also, a number of accounts on Sundry Persons due Rickabaugh and Kirby valued at .50

Also a number of accounts due Rickabaugh alone valued at .50

That [___] the said William Rickabaugh administrator as aforesaid filed in the Clerks office aforesaid court the following Amendment and the same is in the words and figures following to wit:

We the undersigned being appointed at a Special meeting of the [___] [___] for the aforesaid County to appraise the goods and chattels, rights, and contents of Adam Rickabaugh Deceased of the State of Illinois being this day [___] upon by William Rickabaugh Administrator of the Estate of the said Adam Rickabaugh Dcd to appraise a [C___} Black Stallion the property of said decedant. We therefore upon actual [___] do appraise said Black Stallion at the Sum of ninety four dollars. Given under our hands this eighth day August 1842. signed Pollack, Williams.

For above black stallion is property that the decedant left in the State of Illinois and came into my possession on the 8th day of July 1842 therefore I was unable to sell and [m__] my [___] [___] as the court will perceive. Sept 29th 1843. William Rickabaugh

[William Rickabaugh purchased the horse for $165.00 on 19 Aug 1843]
